#Lourdes International Music Festival 2017
Every year, millions make the pilgrimage to Lourdes, a town nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains in rural southwest France and one of the Great Tourist Sites of the Midi-Pyrenees.
The town is home to the Sanctuaires Notre-Dame de Lourdes, a holy sanctuary that holds the holy shrine of Grotto of Massabielle to Our Lady of Lourdes, where the Virgin Mary is said to have to appeared to a local woman, and where pilgrims come to drink or bathe in the holy water of the grotto.
It’s no surprise then that this beautiful town that is one of the most visited Catholic sites in the world should also hold one of the most spiritual musical festivals in the world.
The Lourdes International Music Festival (Festival International de Musique de Lourdes) takes place from 7th to 17th April 2017.
This year they will be celebrating the festival’s 50th anniversary.
A homage to religious music, the annual event brings together over 400 choral singers and musicians who perform symbolic works of religious and classical music.
The performances take place in the churches, abbeys and basilicas of Lourdes, as well as other historic landmark locations.
